While the BNSF and UP dominate the scene in the Columbia River Gorge, there is a lot more happening on the river. Case in point, the ship American Pride. The American Pride cruises the Columbia and Snake rivers. She is operated by the American Cruise Lines and was built by Chesapeake Shipbuilding in 2012. Cruising and 12 knots, she weighs 2700 tons and caters to 150 passengers. The paddlewheel weighs 28 tons.
The American Pride is about to enter the lock at the John Day Dam. The gate of the lock is in the "up" position to allow the ship to enter. The twin towers that hoist the gate look menacing, resembling a Klingon starship.
