The Union Pacific has a unique group of Maintenance of Way (MoW) trains to perform numerous tasks needed by the railroad. Along the Sunset Route as well as the Austin Subdivision, thousands of ties have been replaced. That means that thousands of used and worn ties have to be picked up and discarded.

This MoW set has just received track and time, and is departing the small yard at Corbyn, just south of New Braunfels TX. It has a customized cab at one end and a highly modified SD40-2 as power. In between are well cars that will be used for the ties that are picked up.

Bonus Photo for Thanksgiving

With Thanksgiving almost here, it's appropriate to have a photo of a turkey! The Grumman TBF and General Motors TBM aircraft were universally known in the warbird community as "Turkeys". Here is a pair of gobblers about to take the active runway at Peru IL. Peru is the home of one of the foremost restorers of the genre and home of the annual fly in.
