A late running Sunset Limited splits the signals at the east end of Randolph Field Siding, just across the highway from Randolph Air Force Base. Randolph is named for Capt William Randolph, who was on the naming committee for the base when he was lost in a crash. The base is home to Air Education and Training Command and the Air Force Personnel Center. The center of the base is an historic distric, with the building and hangars in the Spanish Colonial Revival style. In 1935, the film “West Point of the Air” starring Wallace Beery Robert Young, Maureen O’Sullivan and Rossilin Russell was filmed here.
Today, T-1s, T-6s and T-38s grace the sky, training future Instructor Pilots.
