The South East Pennsylvania Transportation Agency (SEPTA) operates an extensive transportation system in the greater Philadelphia area. SEPTA operates numerous bus lines and a trolley bus line in addition to the trolley cars that run in the city, the Norristown High Speed line and suburban Light Rail lines.
The end of the line at Sharon Hill PA has this small station where riders can wait for the next outbound car. These cars were bult by Kawasaki Heavy Industries and went into service in 1981. Known as "K Cars", the predate the Americans with Disabilities Act and are not wheelchair compatible.
These are double ended and use a pantograph to collect current from the overhead wire. Numbered 100-128, there are 29 of them assigned to the Sharon Hill, Route 102 and Media, Route 101 lines. Operating on mostly private Right of Way they carry a maximum of 67 folks and are capable of over 60 mph. During rush hour, two can be coupled together to relive the morning and evening 'crush'.
Kawasaki also built 111 somewhat similar single ended trolleys for the "City" lines, numbered 9000 and upwards , SEPTA hopes to replace all of the within five years.
