The run off.

We, in South Central Texas, have had an extraordinary amount of rain. About 12 inches fell, which is pretty close to half of a typical years rainfall. To accommodate these occurrences, UP has added culverts to prevent washouts by allowing the runoff to find low spots to sink in and evaporate.

If you are fortunate, these low spots pool close enough to the track so as to make a reflection shot possible. In early June, a westbound freight is reflected in the mirror like pond. There are dragonflies on patrol here caputuring the abundant crop of mosquitos.
