CSX local D786 splits a pair of Positive Train Control-compliant signals as it heads east at Point of Rocks, MD on September 24, 2021. D786 runs on weekdays, originating at Brunswick MD and servicing customers at Frederick, MD and occasionally Mount Airy, MD on the Old Main Line Sub. Leading the five-car train is CSX GP38-3 No. 2000, one of 16 former GP38s and GP38-2s which were rebuilt at CSX’s Huntington, WV locomotive shop in 2014-2016. The upgrades include new cabs, new traction control systems, installation of Positive Train Control, auto start and electronic handbrakes. GP38-3 No. 2000 was previously Conrail GP38-2 No. 8137. In this photo D786 is diverging from CSX’s Metropolitan Sub to the Old Main Line Sub, which opened from Baltimore to Point of Rocks in 1834.
