R. J. Corman’s “My Old Kentucky Dinner Train” heads west on its ex-Louisville and Nashville branch line four miles west of Bardstown, KY on June 22, 2017. Leading the three-car train is FP7 No. 1940, previously Southern Railway No. 3496, with FP7 No. 1941 trailing, which was Southern Railway No. 3497. These FP7s were part of an order of 20 FP7s the Southern purchased from EMD in 1950. In 1979, when Southern Railway joined Amtrak, 15 of the FP7s were scrapped and five were saved for excursion service. In 1988 Norfolk Southern management decided the last five of these vintage passenger engines were no longer needed for their operations and sold them to various buyers, including these two to R. J. Corman.
