The BNSF Local that serves Hondo and intermediate customers is heading home to Cadet Yard. Cadet Yard is relatively new, having been placed in service in September 2016. It is close to Lackland AFB, where the Air Force does all of its’ Basic Training and some other specialized training also, hence “Cadet”. It has 10 tracks and a capacity of over 300 cars, and was built to facilitate the switching of BNSF trains using trackage rights over the Sunset Route from Eagle Pass TX, an important gateway to Mexico. Before Cadet Yard was built, that switching had to be done further north at Temple Tx.
Swinging through the curve at Dunlay TX, a pair of SD60s has the local well in hand on January 13, 2021.
