A west bound BNSF stack train crests the summit of Cajon Pass on the former Santa Fe transcon between Chicago and Los Angeles on November 17, 1998. In a few minutes the train will begin the steep descent into the Los Angeles basin. Leading the short train is ex-ATSF GP60 No. 8713, trailing is BNSF C44-9W No. 1023. This photo location has been greatly modified since this image was taken, as adjacent Route 138 has been lowered to reduce its grade.
