Running late, the CZ comes through the town of Mogul NV. Not much to remark at this grade crossing.

Locomotive # 25 pauses at the water tank near the station on the Nevada State RR Museum. The was a four day “Rail Camp” in progress, and the eight students learned to perform a variety of railroad jobs. In addition to the hot and heavy work involved with this 1905 locomotive, they also got to operate two motor cars and the narrow guage wood burner “Glenbrook”.

“Glenbrook” was built for the Carson & Tahoe Lumber and Flume Company by Baldwin in 1875. The wood burning 2-6-0 simmers next to her companion, V&T #25 at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City NV. Now fully restored, “Glenbrook” operates on special occasions at the museum.

Carson & Tahoe Lumber & Flume Co. locomotive “Glenbrook” steams past a donated house that may have been a railroad superintendents’ home. Lavishly painted, “Glenbrook” made a fine sight on a summer afternoon.

East of Sparks, at Painted Rock NV a local heads east towards Fernley and Fallow NM. There are some through freights that will come this way, but they are hours away. That guardrail on the right is IH80 a lonely road to Salt Lake City.

Between Sparks and Fernley NV there are numerous places on east IH80 to pull over and view the tracks. The Truckee River is just beyond the tree line. And Amtrak Train 6, The California Zephyr should arrive at Reno NV on time.
